I made this and added Sazon Goya with Cilantro and Achiote 1/2 pack of the seasoning packet and no corn. It was very good. Will make again and again.

Followed the recipe pretty much verbatim. I found it good tasting, but overall very plain with respect to flavor. Nothing really "sings out" about the dish. With that said, there is a lot of room for embellishment. This dish is a very good base dish however.
I ended up adding a little Tapatio hot sauce to mine and found that really brought the flavor up to what I was looking for.

I cook my black beans from scratch. I don't like the preservatives used in canned beans.
